Father & Sons Overnighter, France, WWII Cemetary & Eagle scout project 05/2005

For our father & sons Aaronic Priesthood commemoration this year we combined it with an Eagle Scout project to clean head stones in this American cemetery.

The chapel has a very sacred feeling as you read the walls descriptions of the battles that took place here during WWII.

The cleaning process was very simple. We took abrasive pads and a bucket of water. Using a brush you wet the top of the stone only. Then in a circular motion the stone creates it's own cleaning solution and the blackened white stones turn white again. It was really amazing. The fronts are white but the tops is what gets dirty and moldy.

The very last soldier to die in WWII is PFC Charley Havlat, 803 TD BN, Nebraska, 7 May 1945.

Both Ben and I were very moved by this experience. If you visit Europe you should make a trip to one of the American cemetery a must see.
