The town was saved in 1631 when the French Catholic Armies of the 30 years war came through and spared the town because the mayor succeeded in the General's challenge to drink a tankard of wine in one go. The tankard was approximately one gallon in size!
The facade of this building has the sculptures of the 7 deadly sins and 7 virtues.

Rothenburg has a very splendid Christmas Market, hence Christmas in July!
The church in the center of town is absolutely beautiful! The stain glass the gold leaf alters and it's really old to our standards.
If you were an important Lord or Baron you could sit in these seats during the middle ages. So were pretending to be pompous and very wealthy...I know it doesn't go over very well. hee hee
The next three pics are of the most admired wood carvings in all of Germany, over 500 years old the alter of the Holy Blood stands about 35 ft tall and has some of the coolest detailed carvings of the last supper you'll ever find.
We're atop the city town hall tower, over 200 feet tall and Grandpa climbed it with us! What a site to see unbelievable!
No kidding it was very tight and steep with creeky old stairs!
